Elder couple rescued from North Charleston house fire

Poole Street fire, North Charleston, Feb. 15 (WCIV)

Firefighters rescued an elder couple from their North Charleston home Friday morning after flames and smoke filled the house.

North Charleston and St. Andrews fire departments responded to the Poole Street home near Park Circle just after 8 a.m., NCFD officials say.

Firefighters reported rescuing one person from the home. Neighbors say a couple in their 90s, married more than 75 years, lived in the home together.

The husband was able to get out of the home under his own power, but the wife had to be helped to safety by North Charleston firefighters, neighbors said.

Crews remained at the home monitoring the situation and continuing to put out hot spots as of 9:30 a.m.
