Folly Rd. fire damages building on site of future James Island Fire Department

Charleston and James Island Fire Departments responded to a fire on Folly Rd. around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, after an abandoned home became engulfed in flames.

Battalion Chief Brad Smiley said the fire was put out around 12:30 p.m., and said a bridge on Folly Rd. near the fire was shut down for about three hours.

The building was vacant, and no one was found inside. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Battalion Chief Smiley said the property is owned by the fire department, and will be the site of the new fire station for James Island Fire Department.
