Generosity upgrades 'Pack the Cruiser'

There were so many donations, police had to get a trailer (NCPD)

North Charleston Police had to upgrade from a cruiser to a trailer Thursday thanks to the generosity of the public.

North Charleston police parked its pink cruiser named Hope outside City hall for two days to allow residents and businesses to pack the cruiser with supplies.

They're part of a state-wide effort to help people impacted the hardest by Hurricane Matthew.

Law enforcement agencies from across the state stuffed police cruisers with needed supplies for the victims of flooding and the hurricane.

They plan to caravan the collected items to the town of Nichols in the Pee Dee area on Friday where 75 percent of the residents are senior citizens and over 90 percent do not have flood insurance.
