A groundbreaking for the new James Island library will take place on Monday, September 25.

Charleston County Public Library and government officials will break ground for the new 20,000-square foot Baxter Patrick Library branch.

The library will be located at the intersection of South Grimball Road and Nathaniel Road on James Island.

Officials say local residents approved a referendum to build five new libraries and renovate 13 others in November 2014. Architects presented their designs for the new branch on James Island to the community during a public meeting on March 6.
