The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting which left a25-year-old man dead Wednesday night near Walterboro.

The incident took place on 100 block of Madison Street, right off Rivers Street just outside of Walterboro.

CCSO said dispatchers received a call from the homeowner saying they shot a suspect intruder breaking into their home.

Upon arrival, deputies reported a deceased male on the homeowner's front porch.

Deputies said the homeowner exited the home unarmed and confirmed he shot the suspected intruder when a second armed man also tried to break down his door.

According to the deputies, the second man fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan.

CCSO said the homeowner cooperated with detectives, giving the location of the used gun and offering footage from the home security camera.

The case is still under investigation and is believed to be an isolated incident.
