Food and beverage job fair held in West Ashley—but where were the applicants?

Low turnout at a hospitality job fair at Andolini's Pizza.

The Charleston Area Hospitality Association (CAHA) along with the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association (GCRA) hosted a job fair at West Ashley's Andolini's Pizza on Wednesday.

But where were the applicants?

Organizers say only about 20 people came to the event, which was hiring for full-time and part-time positions all over the Charleston area.

The goal was to help local restaurants in the West Ashley neighborhood find potential employees, prepping for the busy summer tourist season.

Some employers were ready to hire right on the spot, for both full and part time positions, ranging in a wide variety of positions the the hospitality industry.

Robert Christmann, a job seeker was very happy to learn about the job fair.

" I got a flyer at my door, so that was very efficient of them to think of people like myself in my community."

One of the organizers for the job fair, Bob Seidler says " The idea is we help our member service organizations find employees as they get geared up for tour season.

The next neighborhood hospitality job fair will take place on May 23 at the Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium.
