Inmate who escaped from Trident back in custody

The hunt for an inmate who escaped from custody while at Trident Hospital was taken into custody overnight.

28-year-old Mariel Watson busted out of Trident Hospital earlier Sunday.

He was first arrested by Goose Creek police on outstanding bench warrants for giving false information, resisting arrest and unlawful carrying of a firearm.

Watson was also wanted in Georgia for failing to register as a sex offender.

Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office report he simply walked out, but how he managed to walk out is still under investigation.

"The Sheriff's office will investigate what happened here and measures will be taken to assure that it does not happen again," Sheriff Duane Lewis stated in a press release Sunday.
