Those of you headed out to the Isle of Palms to enjoy the beach may want to be mindful of the new parking rates.

Beginning today, parking in the Municipal Parking Lots on Pavilion Drive will change to $1 per hour.

Parking prices changed from a flat daily rate of $8 on weekdays and $10 on the weekends and holidays.

“It is a positive step forward for the City to encourage daytime visitors to park in the Front Beach commercial district by making it more affordable and accessible for all,” said Mayor Carroll. “Visitors can pay to park in the City lots and head down to the beach for the day, or pay to park for a couple of hours while they enjoy one of our great restaurants or shop in our unique stores.”

IOP residents are allowed to park in the Municipal Lots anytime for no cost, as long as there is a visible Resident Parking Permit or a Wild Dunes decal on the vehicle.

Metered parking on Ocean Blvd. near Front Beach will remain the same, staying at $1.50 per hour.

IOP city officials say if the parking rules are violated, it could result in a $25 fine.
