Johns Island fire Thursday badly damages home

Ghana Street Fire, Johns Island, April 12 (St. John's Fire District)

A home on Johns Island was badly damaged by fire early Thursday morning.

Firefighters with the St. John’s Fire District responded to the call Thursday on the 1900 block of Ghana Street in connection with a possible structure fire.

Firefighters reported heavy fire venting from the roof of the home. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters say the home had sustained an abundant amount of heat and smoke damages.

According to the fire department, the residents were not home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County EMS, and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office also were called to the scene.
