The North Charleston Police Department are initiating their “Kids and Cops” program this Saturday, December 16.

Students are screened and selected by their school guidance counselor.

Once students are selected they are paired up with an officers from NCPD.

Students get to spend the day with the officer beginning with breakfast, then they create their shopping list, then they go on a shopping spree, and then they have lunch.

"The thought came up several years ago by school resource officers that some kids were not going to have a Christmas at all, so we began to brainstorm and try to think of any way that we could help as many kids as possible to have a great Christmas," said Sgt. James Camp,

Last year, nearly 60 students took part in the $150 shopping spree at Wal Mart.

Kids and Cops Schedule is as follows:

  • 8:30 a.m. Officers and kids meet at East Bay Deli (Dorchester and Leeds Ave) for Breakfast and visit from Santa
  • 9:30 a.m. Caravan to Walmart at Centre Point for shopping spree and pictures with Santa.
