Ladson neighbors describe 'quiet' street where woman was struck by gunfire
Ladson, S.C. (WCIV) —
A Ladson woman is in critical condition after a shooting early Wednesday morning.
Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said multiple shots were fired into a home on Farmwood Street. They said a woman inside was shot in the head while lying in her bed.
The incident happened shortly after midnight and rattled the nerves of some neighbors.
A woman living next door was in her driveway, returning home from a road trip. She said she and her kids ran inside, unsure of which direction the shots came.
Other residents said they figured the noise was caused by fireworks and didn't pay much attention to it.
"It's terrible. I can't believe it," said Salvator Crocevera, who lives a few doors down.
The 81-year-old said despite the shooting, he doesn't consider the neighborhood dangerous. He's lived there for roughly three years and has never had a reason to be scared.
"I'm a 30-year retired police lieutenant and I know what a gunshot sounds like," he said. "It's a pretty quiet neighborhood, most of the neighbors are quiet and don't cause problems. We don't see cops coming down the street all the time."
No arrests have been made, but CCSO said it's an active investigation.
They're asking for the public's help to identify the person responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the Charleston County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers at 554-1111.
