After 27 years, the Banana Cabana IOP restaurant on the Isle of Palms closed its doors today.

"It's time, I'm ready to go. It's not anything bad, just the fact that I'm ready to semi-retire and get out of it," said owner Gary Hart.

The beachfront restaurant known for its seafood and burgers announced the closing on its Facebook page Thursday with seemingly little notice beforehand.

The restaurant was serving customers all week, posting its nightly specials to its Facebook page.

However, employees confirm the restaurant has already served its last customers.

Hart states it was a challenge to find reliable help with Charleston's bursting restaurant scene, but said he was ready to get out of the business.

The restaurant's Facebook post thanked customers near and far.

"It is with a heavy heart that Banana is closing its doors today. We have enjoyed serving the island and travelers far and near. Thank you to all of our patrons for your support and for all of the moments you have shared with us. Please remember to support local businesses. We will always carry a piece of you in our hearts," the restaurant posted.
