Lowcountry school districts monitoring Hurricane Irma, no closures yet
Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester County public schools have not announced yet any closures related to Hurricane Irma's potential impacts on South Carolina.
Representatives for each district reached Wednesday said school officials are monitoring the storm, and coordinating with emergency management officials to make a decision, but nothing has been decided so far.
Charleston County School District officials said they anticipate making an announcement by early Thursday afternoon.

As for colleges in the tri-county area, Charleston Southern University officials announced Wednesday the campus will close at 9 p.m. Thursday. All sports events, campus activities and campus visits will also be canceled, "until further notice."
The university has ordered a mandatory evacuation for students (including those in the Wingate hotel) by noon Friday, September 8.

Neither the College of Charleston nor Trident Tech have announced any closure plans at this time.
