Man found dead in downtown Charleston hotel identified as California police officer
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCV) —
The Charleston Police Department has identified West Sacramento police officer Rinaldo Monterrosa as the man found dead Saturday in the Embassy Suites on Meeting Street.
Officers say they were responding to a call about an unresponsive person, and found the 42-year-old lying on the floor in a room.
A cause of death has not been released. Authorities are still investigating.
According to the West Sacramento Police, Monterrosa was an 11-year veteran with the department, and had just returned after battling Lymphoma for the past year.
The police department released a statement on Facebook that read in part:
On behalf of your WSPD family....thank you Monty—for all that you gave to everyone you served over your impactful life. You were truly a gift to those who had the pleasure to work alongside you. You are incredibly loved by your family, community and department. You will be missed my friend.
