Man, 3 pets, escape early morning Berkeley County fire

Crews respond to mobile home fire on Compton Drive in Berkeley County (WCIV)

A man and three of his pets were able to escape a fire that consumed a mobile home on Compton Drive early Monday morning.

Unfortunately, we're told one pet did not make it out.

Officials on scene say the home is a total loss.

Crews from Whitesville Fire Department, Goose Creek Fire, and the Pine Ridge Fire Department were dispatched to the call just before 6 a.m., a Berkeley County dispatch supervisor confirmed.

A portion of the mobile home was melted and turned black by the intense fire.

Compton Drive was blocked as of 7 a.m. as crews continued to spray water on the still smoking home.

There's no word yet what started the fire.
