MLK events continue with awards breakfast


The celebrations continued Tuesday morning in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hundreds of of people gathered at the Gaillard Center for the annual Business and Professional breakfast.

This years theme was "A Dream Unfulfilled."

Speakers addressed the crowd, noting the work that needs to be done to achieve the dream of equality and love for all that Dr. King had for our country.

One of the speakers was Charles Carter, one of the young leaders with the YWCA and a senior at R.B. Stall High School.

Two awards were presented to deserving leaders in the Charleston area.

Meeting Street Academy founder Ben Navarro was awarded the third ever Joseph P. Riley Vision Award.

DOT SCOTT was also awarded the Harvey Gantt Triumph Award for her work with the Charleston Branch of the NAACP.
