MOUNT PLESANT, S.C. (WCIV) — More details have emerged the case of the woman who brought a gun to Lucy Beckham High School Oct. 14.
Nautica Omanykaniyaha Hamilton, 20, was charged with carrying a weapon on school property after her gun was found in a private restroom, the Mount Pleasant Police Department reported.
According to a newly released detailed report, a school SRO was called to the restroom where the weapon was found by thefood services manager.
They stated thatthe gun had been reported to him after one of the ladies went to clean the restroom and saw the gun sitting on top of the female disposal box. He also stated that he saw the handgun and immediately contacted the SRO.

After further investigation, Hamilton confessed that she was the owner of the weapon and she said that she owned the firearm for her protection.
In the report, the attending officer claims that Ms. Hamilton could not understand the significance of her having a weapon on school property.
During further questioning Hamilton claimed that she purchased the weapon from a family member, of whom she couldn't recall the last name.

Officers claim that they has to ask Hamilton multiple times to explain why she had the weapon.
She eventually stated that there were bad things happening in her neighborhood and school shootings that she had seen in the news, so she brought a gun for her protection.
Hamilton was booked at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on her respective charge.
