MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital was gifted $5 million by one local man.

According to MUSC, on Valentine’s Day David Stone presented his wife with a gift to name the Neonatal intensive care floor Laura, to honor her.

“It’s going to be the most state-of-the-art children’s hospital in the country,” Mrs. Laura Stone said after a recent tour of the construction site. “To be on the ground floor of that is huge.”

According to the Children’s Hospital, the neonatal care unit consists of 82 beds of the 250 in the hospital.

The new floor will include mostly private rooms, plus rooms designed to accommodate twins, triplets and other multiple births.

The neonatal intensive care floor is set to open in 2019.
