Myrtle Beach pest exterminator owner arrested for failing to pay over $180,000 in taxes

Beverly Griggs (Horry County Sheriff's Office)

Beverly Griggs, 56, owner of Todd’s Best Exterminating Company Inc. in Myrtle Beach, was arrested Tuesday by South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) agents.

She is charged with five counts of failure to pay more than $100,000 in taxes withheld from employee wages.

South Carolina Department of Revenue states that Griggs was responsible for making withholding tax payments as the business owner and operator.

"Griggs failed to pay $182,630 in state taxes withheld from employee wages to the SCDOR," the department states.

This was for filing periods from April 2010 through December 2010 and tax years 2011 through 2014.

Griggs is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

If convicted, she faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison per charge.

The SCDOR states it is committed to the fair administration of tax laws.

"By taking enforcement action against noncompliant taxpayers, the department seeks to prevent unfairly increasing the tax burden on those who do comply," the department states.
