North Charleston Police have filed a felony driving under the influence charge against a man accused of injuring another person in a wreck late Wednesday night after trying to drive away from police.
The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, according to police.
Officers had tried to stop a man for speeding near Rivers Avenue and Otranto Road, according to police.
The driver pulled over initially, but then drove away at a high speed, police say.
Officers report the fleeing driver tried turning from Rivers Avenue onto Aviation Avenue during the chase, but ended up hitting an on-coming vehicle, injuring one person inside.
The suspect, Cristobal Moguel-Hernandez, 22, is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, driving without a license and driving without insurance in addition to the DUI charge.
A magistrate on Thursday set bond for Moguel-Hernandez at $150,000. He remains in jail at the Charleston County Detention Center as of 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
