Officials: Lane closures on I-26 started with man waving gun, throwing items from car
HARLEYVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) —
Traffic was shut down in both directions on I-26 near St. George Tuesday as emergency crews worked an incident surrounding a suspicious package in a vehicle.
According to Tiffany Norton, public information officer for Dorchester County states that a call came in around 3:30 p.m. about a white male traveling eastbound on I-26 waving a gun and throwing items from the vehicle.
"At approx. 3:50, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office detained the individual around mile marker 177, which is near Harleyville on I-26," Norton states. "At that time, more information was made available about a possible suspicious package in the vehicle and that’s when bath I-26 eastbound and westbound were closed."
The lanes have since reopened.
