One dead after head-on collision on Maybank Highway in Wadmalaw

Two vehicles travelling in opposite directions on Maybank Highway collided into each other’s front right corners, causing major damage and serious injuries, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

One motorist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the department. Another motorist was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash occurred on Thursday, Feb. 7 just before 9 a.m.

Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies responded to two-car collision on Maybank Highway near Boy Scout Road on Wadmalaw Island.

A third vehicle, attempting to avoid the collision, swerved off the roadway, with no resulting damage, the department states.

Traffic investigators responded to the scene. No charges were filed.

The Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased party.
