One person has died following a four-vehicle wreck Wednesday between Cottageville and Summerville, officials confirm.

S. C. Highway Patrol says the wreck was reported shortly before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 17-A and Clubhouse Road.

Police say the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck drove left of center and struck three cars in a "side-swipe action."

The man in the truck was ejected from the vehicle, airlifted to MUSC and died at the hospital from his injuries.

One of the vehicles the truck struck, an SUV, flipped over during the crash.

The driver and passenger in the SUV were transported by EMS to Trident Medical Center.

The driver of another vehicle involved in the crash was also injured, and transported by EMS to Trident Medical Center.

All lanes on 17-A were blocked for a time while public safety officials worked the scene and investigated the wreck. The road reopened to traffic shortly after 3:30 p.m., but Highway Patrol remains at the scene investigating the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
