One person killed in Colleton County wreck Sunday

South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person died in a wreck Sunday in Colleton County.

The wreck occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Sidneys Road outside Walterboro, Highway Patrol says.

The driver of a 1999 Dodge pickup was killed when their vehicle ran off the side of the road and overturned in a ditch, according to Highway Patrol.

According to Colleton County Fire-Rescue, the truck flipped over at least once, ejected the unrestrained driver and landed on top of the man.

Highway Patrol says no other vehicles were involved, and the driver was the only person in the vehicle.

The driver, who died at the scene, was not wearing a seatbelt, officials say. The driver has not been identified yet.

The area on Sidneys Road was closed for more than two hours while Highway Patrol investigated the cause of the accident.

The location is the site of several previous fatal accidents, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue.
