Three-year-old Aiden Martin died after accidentally shooting himself with a gun over the weekend.

The incident has been ruled an accidental death by the Colleton County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday at 11:33 p.m., deputies responded to the Colleton County Medical Center in reference to a 3-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The child was brought in by the father Allen Martin. The child was transported by helicopter to MUSC and succumbed to his injury and passed away around 6 a.m. Saturday.

Allen Martin consented to a gunshot residue test and passed.

According to the police report, Allen Martin said he and his son were at a friend's trailer next to a Walterboro warehouse. Martin stated that there were seven guys at the trailer. He said he only knew "Ken," who he said he had known for two years.

He said Aiden was in the kitchen and he was in the living room, approximately 10 to 15 feet away, when he heard a pop.

Martin said he looked in the kitchen and saw his son bleeding from the head.

According to the police report, the shooting occurred after his other two young children were recently dropped off at the location.

According to the police report, Allen Martin was drunk and being loud and disorderly in the emergency room.

"When asked by Detective Macurella what had occurred, Martin avoided the question and was screaming, waving his arms around and not following instructions to lower his voice.

Martin was handcuffed, detained and removed outside to prevent further disruption," the police report states.

Once Allen Martin calmed down, he was released from the handcuffs, according to the police report.
