MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — A man who was charged with stealing a woman's car after she was found shot to death in her Mt. Pleasant home has now been charged with her murder.
Norman Philip Browne, 44, of Charleston, was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the death of 60-year-old Ann Witherspoon.
"Investigators apprehended the suspect in Myrtle Beach this evening," according to the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Witherspoon was found dead of a gunshot wound in her home on Seminole Street in the Old Village on Feb. 9, the Charleston County Coroner's Office says.
Norman Browne, 44, was arrested by Mount Pleasant Police on Feb. 10, and charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle. Mount Pleasant Police affidavits say Browne stole a Cadillac sedan belonging to Witherspoon.
Browne has since been released from jail after posting $50,000 bail.
According to police affidavits, a friend told investigators Witherspoon had traveled to Myrtle Beach on Feb. 6 to meet with Browne.
Affidavits did not say why Witherspoon was meeting with Browne.
