Voters at St. Andrews precinct 28 in West Ashley reported that the computers used for voter check-in were down during lunchtime.

One frustrated voter said he waited three hours to cast his ballot at Grace on the Ashley Church off Bees Ferry Road.

Voters reported that the actual voting machines were down for about 30 minutes, with no backup plan in place, but have resumed working, with people are waiting on average two hours.

Poll manager estimates 1,000 people either had voted or were waiting to vote by noon just at that one location.

The poll manager at that location said he wished there were more people working, which would help the wait.

Wage for poll workers too low?

State Representative Wendell Gilliard announced Tuesday that he will pre-file a House Bill called "Poll Workers Compensation Study Committee" again this year to study wages for poll workers statewide.

"This decision comes after meeting with poll workers and discovering there is still a problem These dedicated and hardworking individuals are still receiving low wages and late compensation," Gilliard states.

He adds that the bill intends to "create an equitable level of compensation for the poll workers and enhance interest for those thinking of applying" in the future.
