The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified a man shot and killed by law enforcement Tuesday in Huger.

Joseph Hart, 51, died from gunfire after engaging deputies in a nearly half-hour shootout Tuesday, Feb. 26., the coroner's office says.

No law enforcement was injured in the shootout, which began after a deputy reportedly tried to initiate a traffic stop on Hart.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said the suspect used multiple firearms, including a high-powered rifle and handguns, to fire multiple rounds at deputies at close range.

Lewis provided additional new details onTuesday's standoff and officer-involved shootingduring a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
