GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C., (WCIV) — The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of shots fired near McDonald Elementary School Tuesday morning.
Tyler Mazyck, 19, was charged with disturbing schools and resisting arrest, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.
According to a preliminary report from the sheriff's office, Mazyck, was detained and transported to Georgetown County Detention Center after deputies said he refused to leave the school property.
Reportedly, Mazyck admitted to having a firearm but said he threw it somewhere on school property. No firearm was found on school grounds, deputies said.
Several units, including a K-9 team, have been deployed to search for the firearm.
McDonald School was on lockout status but the school is admitting students and normal operations are continuing.
