Soldier killed in Fort Hood buried in North Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
One of several soldiers killed in a tragic accident in Fort Hood, Texas was laid to rest in North Charleston today.
Private Eddy "Rae" Laurin Gates was one of nine killed in a training exercise on June 3 when the military vehicle she was riding in overturned.
On Sunday, hundreds gathered for a funeral at a Fayetteville church. She attended high school in that area and joined the military in December 2015.
Eddy "Rae" Laurin Gates is the daughter of Charleston Deacon Eddie R. Gates. She was delivered to her final resting place at around 1 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
More than 200 people attended the burial of the 20-year-old. She was buried with full military honors.
Officials say 12 soldiers were on the truck in which Gates was riding, described as a light medium tactical vehicle.
