CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — If all the states in America were a country, South Carolina would be third in the world for the most confirmed cases in the past week, according to data compiled from the New York Times.

And right in front of South Carolina, Arizona and Florida would hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

The New York Times used data from John Hopkins University and state and local agencies from the week of June 28 to July 4, breaking it down by cases per 1 million residents.

The countries of Bahrain, Qatar and Oman in the Middle East held the No. 4, No. 6, and No. 7 spots, while Louisiana fit in the fifth spot. The next five spots were all US states.

On Saturday, South Carolina hit a record-high 2,239 cases in one day with a record-high 22.6 percent positive rate.

Also, the first pediatric death occurred in the state with a child under the age of 5 passing away from the virus.
