Study ranks Charleston Intl. 3rd most stressful airport in US

Study ranks Charleston Intl. 3rd most stressful airport in US (WCIV)

Charleston may be number one on the list for a host of positive reasons. But one recent study has some scratching their heads.

One study done by travel insurance agency, InsureMyTrip, says that Charleston International Airport ranks the third most stressful airport to travel through in the entire country.

The study puts us behind Laguardia International and Norfolk, Virginia, but ahead of famous (or imfamous) airports like O'Hare, JFK, LAX, and Atlanta.

Folks we spoke with flying out of Charleston had a few issues with the rankings.

"Total nonsense, completely," said Mike Johns, visiting from Colorado. "I fly in and out of Denver, I fly in and out of LAX, I fly in and out of multiple other airports, and Charleston’s just not that stressful."

"I would have to not agree with that," said Audry Padula, who says she flies several times a week for business. "I don’t think it's very stressful to fly out of Charleston to be honest. Newark is probably my least favorite to fly out of."

The travel insurance agency, InsureMyTrip, looked at flight delays and cancellations at airports across the country for 2018 to make its rankings.

Taking into account CHS was closed for two hurricanes and a significant snow storm this year, its easy to see how the rankings were skewed.

In a press release, airport officials said they really weren't taking the rankings seriously.

"The Charleston International Airport is far from stressful. From the curbside valet parking, expedited security lines, 2,000 plus places to charge your mobile devices, live, local entertainment and delicious cuisine, CHS prides itself on having something for everyone to enjoy," Charleston International representatives said in a release.

They also pointed out that security wait times average a mere 10 minutes.
