Local and state law enforcement agencies are investigating what they say was an accidental shooting on Thursday that took the life of a young boy in his home.

Summerville police responded to the home on Barberry Street in White Gables after officials say a mother found her three-year-old boy unresponsive.

Dorchester County Coroner Paul J. Brouthers says Liam Morrison, 3, of Summerville accidentally shot himself while holding a firearm.

Summerville Police Department, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Dorchester County Coroner's Office are investigating the boy's death.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.
