Walterboro man dead after train, car crash in Colleton County
The person that died this morning from a train collision has been identified by Colleton County Fire-Rescue as a 27-year-old Walterboro man.
Witnesses say the man did not stop at the crossing near the Green Pond Community. This caused the northbound traveling Amtrak train to collide with the man’s car, fire rescue says.
Firefigher-paramedics arrived minutes later to the crossing on Weiss Ln to see a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria fully involved in fire, officials say.
The man was partially ejected but was still trapped inside the car. The man appears to have died from multiple traumatic injuries before the car was on fire, Fire Chief Barry W. McRoy says.
No one on the train was injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating this incident.
