Two handguns—one loaded—found in locker at West Ashley Middle School, two students charged

Two West Ashley Middle School students are facing criminal charges after administrators found two handguns, one which was loaded, in a student’s locker Friday.

The 14-year-old boys are charged with possession of a firearm on school campus, according to the Charleston Police Department.

About 1 p.m., school administrators received information that there was a firearm on campus.

The school was placed on code yellow lockdown and the students involved were immediately removed from their classrooms.

A book bag containing two handguns were located in a locker, according to the Charleston Police Department.

One of the students took the handguns from his home.

This is an ongoing investigation.
