Cities, towns and counties throughout the Lowcountry are offering sandbags for people to help protect their homes from flooding in the event South Carolina should see major impacts from Hurricane Florence.

Florence, which strengthened to a major category 3 hurricane Monday morning, is expected to continue gaining strength and speed as it tracks toward the South Carolina-North Carolina coast.

The storm is expected to make landfall Thursday. While an exact location is still unpredictable for where the heart of the storm will come ashore, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center say both North and South Carolina are likely to see significant impacts.
