Representative Peter McCoy (R-Charleston) has announced that he is seeking re-election to the State House.

McCoy currently chairs the House Utility Ratepayer Protection Committee which is investigating the VC Summer failure.

South Carolina lawmakers have been advancing a measure aimed at drawing down utility bills in the wake of a nuclear construction project failure.

The House voted 107-1 Wednesday to give a second reading to a bill halting customer payments for the failed project at VC Summer Nuclear Station.

Rep. McCoy has been overseeing hearings into the project’s failure.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the coastal communities of James Island, Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island in the South Carolina House of Representatives. I love this community and pledge to continue to put my heart and soul into representing this House District,” McCoy said.

McCoy has been serving in the State House since his election in 2010.
