Vice President Pence stumping for McMaster in Conway
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) —
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster is getting the first of two Trump administration visitors hoping to boost his chances at winning a first full term in office.
Vice President Mike Pence is visiting Conway on Saturday for a campaign rally with McMaster. President Donald Trump has endorsed McMaster, who as lieutenant governor was the first statewide elected official to back Trump's 2016 candidacy. McMaster became governor last year when Nikki Haley became U.N. ambassador.
McMaster and Greenville businessman John Warren face voters Tuesday in a Republican runoff to determine the party's gubernatorial nominee. McMaster was the top vote-getter in a June 12 primary but failed to reach the 50 percent needed to win the nomination.
Trump is visiting South Carolina on Monday, just hours before polls open in Tuesday's balloting.
