Ceremony planned for Sofa Super Store fire anniversary
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) —
Charleston Fire officials have announced this year's plans for the ceremony to honor the Charleston 9, nine firefighters killed in the line of duty back in 2007.
The Remembrance Ceremony for the Charleston 9 will be held at the Charleston 9 Memorial Park (1807 Savannah Highway) on Saturday, June 18.
The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a lineup of uniformed personnel, the reading of the names of the fallen and a ringing of the bell, followed by bagpipes.
"The community is invited to join the department and family members as we pause to reflect on the tragic loss of June 18th, 2007," the release stated.
Parking at the site will be limited and visitors are asked to find off-site parking nearby.
Charleston fire personnel will initiate a 24-hour watch at the flagpole of the memorial site starting at midnight June 18. Members of the community are welcome to visit the site throughout the vigil.
