Charlie Patterson steps down as Hanahan head football coach

Longtime Hanahan head football coach Charlie Patterson is stepping down after 10 seasons.

Patterson, who was 71-48 in 10 seasons and won five region championships leading the Hawks, announced his resignation Thursday at an athletics banquet.

Patterson took over the program in 2008. The Hawks' best season under Patterson came in 2012, when the Hawks went 11-3 en route to winning their third of four consecutive region titles, and advancing to the S.C. AAA Lower State Semifinals.

The Hawks were 4-8 and bowed out in the first round of the playoffs in 2017 under Patterson, whose career playoff record leading Hanahan was 6-10.
