Pay it Forward: Retta Murphy

Pay it Forward: Retta Murphy

Mrs. Retta Murphy was nominated by one of her staff members, Felicia Sherman.

"Mrs. Retta is godly wife, mother, grandmother and like a mother to many whom she manages at Gildan Corp," Sherman said. "I met her during a difficult time in my life and she shared the love of Christ by showing me patience,a little tough love and kindness. She is the reason why I'm still here. I was going down the wrong path, doing drugs and not obeying the law. She took the time to reach out to me, talk to me, and show me I was worth more than what I was doing. I believe she deserves this because she is a strong woman whom inspired me and many other young women to keep pressing on, have faith in everything you do, and always keep God first."

With tears in her eyes, Mrs. Retta humbly accepted a $500 Visa gift card and talked about why there's a special place in her heart for the young women of the Lowcountry.

"I just see a real need and I know growing up, my mother was my inspiration," she said. "And I'm just trying to be good to others as she was to many in her life."

Mrs. Retta says it's a gift of giving that comes from a higher power.

"I believe that's my calling, just to be a servant and to be there for others as they need me to," she said. "And I try to make that sacrifice at all times."
